Food Manufacture and Plastics in Packaging are among the trade media helping raise awareness of industry concerns around the potential dangers to consumers of sourcing printed ovenable films without adequate testing and certification.
This was first highlighted by TCL Packaging in March after introducing the first printed films in the UK to have tested successfully to 220°C, 450°F Gas 7. The film performance received full certification from test authority Smithers Pira and the exceeds requirements of current EU Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004
TCL’s managing director, Mike Golding comments: “Every ovenable and microwaveable film purchased should be backed up by an appropriate test certificate and technical report and we urge buyers to request this documentation. If a customer requires it, the certification number should be printed on the film, guaranteeing its safe performanceâ
